Phoenix is the capital city of Arizona state. Famous for its sky-high temperatures and high-end resorts, Phoenix is the most populated city in Arizona with approximately 1,608,000 residents. Commonly referred to as the “Valley of the Sun”, the city’s metropolitan area is a major economic force with dominating tourism and manufacturing industries. Phoenix has a rich cultural history beginning with the Hohokam civilization in 1 AD, then the O’odham and Sobaipuri tribes, then Spanish explorers, and eventually American settlers in 1867. After the development of air conditioning in the 1950s, the subsequent arrival of industry to the area greatly expanded Phoenix as a city. Today, Phoenix is known for its desert gardens, elaborate pools, hotel resorts, and southwest-infused cuisine – all with an affordable cost of living and plenty of job opportunities.
Phoenix’s most iconic and Instagrammable spots come from the natural splendor of the desert. Camelback Mountain, named for its shape resembling a kneeling camel, is a popular hiking spot that leads to a panoramic view of the city. In the city’s West corner, the Desert Botanical Gardens showcase a variety of 50,000 desert plants. This 50-acre living museum displays everything from delicate blooms to hardy saguaro cacti. Holidays in the gardens bring new art installations and events, including the yearly tradition of Las Noches de Las Luminarias.
From the Musical Instrument Museum, which features a collection of thousands of instruments from all over the world, to preserved historical sites like Heritage Square, Phoenix has something for every visitor. Dive bars, fine dining, shopping, famous architecture, art, golf, and ostrich farms… Whatever you can imagine, Phoenix, Arizona has it.
