Fountain Hills, Arizona is a town in Maricopa County. Nestled between the foothills of the McDowell Mountains and the metropolitan state capital, Fountain Hills has all the perks of small community living but with an International Airport just a short drive away. The town is best known for its spectacular mountain views and the impressive fountain for which it is named. The 560-foot geyser fountain, once the tallest in the world, is visible from the Superstition Mountains. It serves as a community landmark, spouting every 15 minutes morning through evening. With a thriving art community, homey restaurants, bikeable equestrian trails, local events and museums, Fountain Hills’ residential atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming to all who choose to visit.
Fountain Hills has amassed one of the largest public art collections in the state. These works are visible on Public Art Walks with a backdrop of the natural desert wildlife and mountain ranges. The walk winds through downtown’s main avenue and concludes at Fountain Park, where a collection of bronze statues of former presidents named “Fount Rushmore” resides. In addition to Fountain Hills’ great efforts to promote public art, the town has earned a prestigious title as an International Dark Sky Community. One of the town’s assets is its beautiful dark sky, which attracts amateur stargazers and professionals alike. The association’s goal is to eliminate light pollution and preserve the dark sky. Monthly star parties hosted by the local astronomy club, rentable telescopes, and residential domed observatories are an excellent way to view the expansive night sky and its millions of stars.
Fountain Hills provides plenty of opportunity for its residents to engage with the community. Arts and craft festivals, wine festivals, music festivals, farmers markets, and other community events are posted regularly on the community’s official website. Between outdoor sports in the mountain ranges, quaint shops in the city, and the proximity of the metropolitan state capital, Fountain Hills is a city that feels both worldly and world’s away.
