Get yourself an account on irs.gov before the bad guys do it for you
The Federal Trade Commission recently announced that they received more than 490,000 identity theft complaints in 2015, a 47% increase over 2014. FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez said tax refund fraud was “the largest and fastest growing ID theft category” tracked by the FTC.
What can you do to keep yourself from becoming a victim? There are lots of things, but a good place to start is to make sure you set up an account for yourself on irs.gov before the bad guys do it in your name.
Head over to this page and set up an account if you haven’t already.
And whether you are setting up a new account or already have one, I’d STRONGLY recommend using a nice strong password from our favorite site http://www.passwordgenerator.com.
